[a deep breath, and Akira composes himself in time for Akechi to hand him the envelope. despite the gross goo and smudges littered across the paper, he takes it without hesitation, opening it up to scan the paper inside]
[There is, in fact, something written on it! It appears to be a journal entry dated for October 31st, though the year is illegible. It reads:]
It has come to my attention that few are cognizant of the issues presented in the identification of the dead. In many cases, a medical examiner cannot create a death certificate if the body is missing or cannot be properly or accurately identified at the time of the certification. Without proof of a cause, can the victim truly be claimed as dead?
Subject 9's heart beats steadily and seems to fully function on its own after isolating the anomaly. Subject's 6 and 11 continue to serve as a standardized test of durability, and while subjects 2 and 3 have formed some sort of bond, subject 15 remains increasingly hostile and subject 12's cause of death still remains unidentified.
The most unusual guest, subject 13, continues to prove himself to be highly intelligent post-mortem. Though incapable of speech, subject has shown immense strength of will and almost seems to display human-like emotions and understanding. Reconstructing the body has proven successful, and other subjects have been properly disposed.
The answer continues to allude me, but the last of the guests have been finished off. It appears as though several of them lived well past their time of death, though most of their minds have quickly deteriorated. So long as they remain in their cells and are isolated from one another they are manageable. Regardless, I fear that they may overwhelm me in this house the longer I study them, and if a proper method of killing is not found soon.
They grow stronger every day. Though proud of the work accomplished, I still wonder what it's all for.

The living dead would fit the theme we've seen so far, after all.
